ABOUT ME

“I hope that my music is inspiring, uplifting, and fun. I consider it a great privilege that I get to share it.”

I was born on July 19, 1967, in South Africa, In my day job he I am a founding partner and Chief Technology Officer at a technology company in San Diego. I spend my days as a geek, and this pays the bills. At night and on the weekend my true passion is playing music.

I learned to play the guitar at age ten and have never had formal lessons.  Over the years I learned to play drums, bass, a little keyboard, and some harmonica. I regret never being bold enough to pursue music as a career. In recent years as I try to get better at improvisation I have begun to realize the importance of music theory, and how much I missed out on. At one point I held "self-taught" up as a badge of honor, but realize that what it really means is that I did not have the best teacher.

My encouragement to myself, and all musicians who have experiences similar to mine is to take advantage of all the resources that are available to continue to learn. Grow in knowledge, practice, grow in skill, and appreciate how much you don't know. If you are able to take lessons please do so. A teacher will personalize lessons and the pace to you. There are also many free resources on YouTube and other sites where people generously give of their time to post educational materials.

I believe that if I am not improving I am at best stagnant, and at worst regressing in knowledge and skill. Let's make it a habit to improve a little every day musically, and as a person.

WHAT DOES MICHAEL THINK ABOUT MUSIC?

Expression through music is a very personal thing and I am thankful for the privilege of sharing something from my heart and soul. I am so excited to present my music. I hope that everyone will find something they like in each of the songs. Recording my music is a welcome escape from my life as a geek to do something that has been my passion for many years. I hope you will let me know if you enjoy these songs.

THE WORST GUY ON STAGE

I appreciate all my friends who inspire me to grow musically and in my faith, and for allowing me to be the worst guy on stage. I thank God for His grace on my life especially when I deserved it least, and His continued work in my life as I strive to be the man He wants me to be. "Not that have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me." - Philippians 3:12. I am and continue to be a work in progress.
